Mission + Vision
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help families build a place to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.
The work of Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
In the spirit of sharing, we create safe and affordable homes in partnership with qualifying families in need of decent shelter. We do this through the dedicated efforts of community volunteers, financial sponsors, and partnering families who find rewarding experiences by sharing their time, talents, and resources.
Our vision is to make a difference in the lives of others, fulfill the dream of home ownership with an affordable mortgage and help eliminate sub-standard housing in Eastern Connecticut.
Comprised of three separate affiliates, Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut merged together over a six-year period between 2013 and 2019. Each partnership was formed with a desire to provide greater service to the cause of decent shelter for all. The mergers created the largest geographic Habitat service area in the state.
- Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut was founded in 1987
- Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut was founded in 1994
- Habitat for Humanity of the Windham Area was founded in 1995
Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, born with the spirit of incredible partnership and desire to do more, has completed 100 homes (2022) locally and assisted more than 120 families internationally. This has been made possible through the generosity of many who contribute time in a range of supportive services, who donate building materials or property, and who donate funds that allow us to buy needed construction materials.
We are incredibly grateful for a broad range of support from our homeowners, individuals, foundations, government entities, corporations, and area faith groups. We strive to be exceptional stewards of these gifts of time, talent, and treasure and have been rewarded with Charity Navigator’s 4-Star Rating each year since 2016.
With your help, we can do more.
