With Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, you have the opportunity to volunteer in many local communities.

In eastern Connecticut, you can help Habitat build affordable homes in Windham and New London Counties, as well as volunteering at our two ReStore locations in Plainfield and Waterford.

Because of the help of people like you, whole neighborhoods improve and completely transform. Through this transformation, families achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life and to secure safe, affordable housing.

Women Build

Since 1991, Women Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities. Women are the population’s most likely demographic to be affected by poor living conditions. Our Women Build event is typically in March and provides an opportunity for women to take a proactive step in empowering themselves and their communities.

Women Build is usually scheduled for the spring, but if you have a group of women who want to build, we’ll make any day Women Build day! Email for details: engage@habitatect.org

Women Build April 2-4, 2024

Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build is an annual project that recruits and empowers women of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences to come together, build homes, and make a tangible impact on our local community.

This year’s Spring Fling (April 2-4) pays homage to International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of all women.

Thank you to our sponsor and builders at Centreville Bank.  Thank you to Couture Financial, Inc. for sponsoring the build team at Safe Futures

Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Collectively we can celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias, and take action for equality. International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first International Women’s Day gathering in 1911. International Women’s Day is not specific to any one country, group, or organization, and now you can become part of this international collective, simply by saying yes to helping build a Habitat home in your community. Bravo!

Your participation matters:

  • It’s more than just building a home; it’s building a better future and a strong foundation for its future homeowner: a single mom with five young children.
  • Women, especially those who serve as single heads of households, and women of color, disproportionately face obstacles that make accessing decent, affordable housing seem impossible.
  • In eastern Connecticut, we know that stable housing is transformative for women and their families.
  • When families have a safe, decent place to call home, they are more likely to be healthier, attain higher levels of education, and build sustainable wealth.
  • Women Build sponsorships and fundraising go directly to building more houses in eastern Connecticut.
